It’s been a long time since my last post and a lot has happened during that time. Besides the Covid pandemic, we had a lot of personal things to take care of. We had tree #2 fall on our camper. Luckily this ended up being less of a nightmare that the first time. In the end, we sold our RV plus our truck and got a new, more reliable car. My Dad’s health was declining and he ended up passing away. After that, we moved my Mom into a retirement community in Las Vegas. I won’t bore you with many more details of this time. I did learn what it’s like to be doused in gasoline from the waste down and how strange it feels to replace a toilet in an Airbnb without the host knowing. Other crazy stuff has happened too, but I’ll leave it at that.
We have done some traveling during this time too, but it was all in the U.S. We drove from New Hampshire to Michigan and back to see Howard’s Dad and sister. Because of the pandemic Canada was closed, so we couldn’t take our usual short cut. Moving my Mom to Las Vegas involved 2 trips back and forth, the first time we went via Idaho to visit some family. All of this was close to 15,000 miles (24,000 km) of driving and yes, I’m sick of it. Howard and I made one more trip out to Vegas last October, but that time we flew.
With all this going on, work was not as productive as we hoped it would be. It was very stressful dealing with everything and hard to concentrate on much else except paying the bills. We tried to write a couple games, but they sit unfinished. The web/software development side of things has started to thrive however. In fact, we are now at the point where we have too much work and need to bring in some extra help. Hopefully we can get back to the game development side of things too.
We are trying to get back to our normal life. In fact, we are traveling again. We spent the holidays in Sofia, Bulgaria, as we did 4 years ago. This time I managed not to sprain my ankle! Right now, we are in Veliko Turnovo, Bulgaria, an old mediaeval city and former capital of the Bulgarian Empire. It’s a great city to explore and we have an awesome Airbnb.
I’m not sure where I’m going to go with this blog. I may continue posting about our travels but I’m also ready to settle down for a while. Besides our RV, I haven’t lived in my own house since 2013. That’s 10 years! I will continue to post some sort of updates here though, we’ll have to see what 2023 brings.
